Jim Normandin with plans for the Sibling Room

The Murphy Family Foundation’s initial project with Miller Children’s Hospital began with the creation of the Sibling Room. Jim Normandin, Board Member of the Murphy Family Foundation, here shown reviewing plans for the Sibling Room as part of major expansion of the hospital.

Miller Children’s Hospital

The Murphy Family Foundation had its beginning in Bob Murphy’s philanthropic support of Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospitals. Ola Mae Murphy, his mother, spent much of her final days under excellent care of Long Beach Memorial and Bob expressed his appreciation through charitable gifts to the Hospital. He also served on the Board of Directors for Memorial Care Foundation. There, under the mentoring of President Jim Normandin, he learned all aspects of what it takes to lead and run a sound Foundation.

In 1997, Bob began to lay the groundwork for today’s Murphy Family Foundation. He researched and planned for two years, together with Jim Normandin,  president  of Memorial Medical Center Foundation. He decided that the Murphy Family Foundation’s financial management would be administered by Memorial Foundation, but guided in its work by the Murphy Family. Further, the idea of Partnering, would provide the tools and professional resources to enhance the Foundation’s ability to carry out its mission.
